How Are You Really
As we lead up to the end of the year, for some this can feel like a life change/life shift. The new year brings with it lots of opportunity for ‘newness’ and fresh starts, but during the build-up we can start reflecting on what we haven’t achieved yet.
We start asking ourselves if the year has gone the way we wanted it to. We then try to cram lots of things in to help us achieve our goals from 12 months ago. Will all of this lead to a sense of overwhelm and that awful thing that happens when we really want to do lots, our flustered selves end up doing little?
It’s super important towards the end of the year to check in with ourselves and ask;
How Are You Really?
How do you start asking that question?
Firstly, it’s helpful to break things down into sections that are important to you. This could be family related, work progress or as nuanced as our skin barrier.
Think about things that usually crop up for you when you start analysing your success. This is different for everybody and there is no wrong or right.
As an example, 5 sections could be;
-Connection with family
-Exercise (fitness in general)
-Positivity towards life (mental wellness)
-Commitment to work
-Home
Take one section at a time and write a few words about how you feel.
If it is something you would like to work on before January comes around use these 3 steps to help get you there.
SMALL STEPS TO GET THERE
Write a list of small steps to get you where you want to be, these should be ‘to-do’ list size and totally achievable.
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
LIMITING BELIEFS
What is it that has stopped you achieving this goal throughout the year, do you have any negative thoughts that crop up when you think about doing it.
Here is an example of someone who wanted to be more financially stable.
- I can’t earn ‘big’ money
- I can’t spend my money or else I’ll never have any
- I have to keep my savings rather than invest in myself
POSITIVE STATEMENTS
Now, do the exact same but with positive statements you could replace the limiting beliefs with.
- I can manage my money to make it work for itself
- I feel confident with my financial advisor and my own personal expertise
- I have enough to invest in my own project
This check-in is a brilliant way to allow our minds to feel more ‘in control’ over the next few months. It is surprising how thinking deeply about something can make us realise they actually don’t matter so much. You may even get rid of some of the things on your mind, as when you come to think of it, they’re not so important. Perhaps they can even wait till next year.
