De-influence Yourself

For 2025, the rise of de-influencing yourself is gaining momentum. It’s a quiet rebellion against algorithm-driven consumption, a shift from curating life for the feed to curating it for yourself. Less noise, more intention. Here’s everything to know…

Stanley Cups
The Stanley Quencher tumbler experienced a significant surge in popularity, with annual sales escalating from $70 million in 2019 to $750 million in 2023.Social media has played a huge part in this? How do we know this? Because it’s unfathomable that up until 2023 people weren’t totally fine without a 1l bottle with a handle. Yes, they do look great, but unless you don’t already have one there really is no need for such a large bottle!

Dyson Air Wraps
Since its debut, the Dyson Airwrap has maintained high demand, with reports in 2021 of over 100,000 individuals on waiting lists and four units sold every minute.

Despite its innovative design, is it really necessary? Speaking from experience; I genuinely considered buying one once, I was actually going to spend £500 on a device that gives me a blow dry when most days I wake up, scrape my hair back and occasionally don’t bother to brush it. I don’t know what made me  think I would spend the time to use it, when I don’t spend the time with a regular hair dryer- but anyway I’ve been seriously de-influenced.

Retinol Products
Retinol is widely recognized for its potential skin benefits, yet it may not be suitable for everyone. How many times have you seen a girl with flawless skin and thought copying her routing will also give you her skin? We should all know by now that skin is individual and you can’t copy someone’s routine. Individuals with sensitive skin or specific conditions might experience adverse reactions. Consulting with a dermatologist can help determine if retinol is appropriate, or if alternative skincare routines would be more beneficial.

Coffee Purchases
For some reason, you just have to buy a coffee to go on a hot gurl walk. Why? I actually said toa friend once, ‘no I’ll bring a drink from home’ and she genuinely sounded disappointed that I wouldn’t be spending money in Starbucks. Regularly purchasing coffee from cafés can accumulate significant costs over time. Preparing coffee at home allows for customization and cost savings. What’s not to love?

Yoga Mats
For those engaging in occasional home workouts, investing in a yoga mat may not be necessary. Carpeted areas or existing rugs can provide sufficient cushioning for low-impact exercises. Assessing the frequency and type of workouts can guide the decision to purchase specialised equipment. That being said, I exercise at home approximately once a month and have three yoga mats to choose from 🙂

Gua Sha Tools
Gua Sha, a traditional Chinese therapy, involves scraping the skin to improve circulation. While specific tools are marketed for this practice, similar benefits can be achieved using hands or household items with smooth edges, reducing the need for specialised purchases. Most people buy the tool before even seeing if they’ll habit stack using their hands.

Dietary Supplements
The global dietary supplements market has seen substantial growth, yet not all individuals require supplementation. Obtaining a blood test can identify specific deficiencies, allowing for targeted supplementation if necessary. A balanced diet often provides essential nutrients without the need for additional products. For some reason, our go-to is supplement replacement rather than just seeing how we can change our diet?
